We were all in the same group that travelled here by boat. There were 45 of us, mainly from Afghanistan. We had lots of trouble with the smugglers. The first one ran away with our money so we had to find another smuggler and pay twice. Shafiga was on her own and didn’t have any more money, she was crying. One member of our group said, ”don’t worry, each one of us will pay $200, we will look after you,” We waited another 2 month while we found another smuggler. There were 4 women and I was the only child, we did all the cooking for 52 people. It was exhausting work. We didn’t have proper equipment so we improvised by turning a pan upside down to bake the bread. We made 52 breads, 3 times a day. That’s more than 9000 breads while we were waiting to come here — Sarah |
